Very good Bar-B-Q. Everything we tried was delicious. Papa Bob made sure we tried other foods than what we ordered by giving us several samples. All the meats were tender and juicy. Beans, slaw and onion rings delicious. We had dinners and had a hearty portions. Highly recommend you give Papa Bob a try!

Great little bbq joint! Our band stops by on occasion and the sandwiches never disappoint! Come out and give them a try if you've never been. Live music this saturday btw from 5 till 8 by JAB!

Papa Bob's is AMAZAZING!! We stopped there on our road trip to see about The Destroyer featured on Man vs Food. My hubby thoroughly enjoyed it. (The regular sized one which was still pretty big) The kids ate every bite of their sandwiches. I thought I'd just order a simple grilled chicken sandwich, but it was so much more. They marinate it in an Italian dressing beforehand mmmmm. After our excellent lunch, Papa Bob himself came out to see how everything was. He was THE nicest guy and taught us a bit more about BBQ and let us try some burnt ends for free. Service was excellent, staff very helpful and all smiles. They could benefit with some new booths, but otherwise, it felt like we were welcomed regulars. I highly recommend Papa Bob's to everyone and anyone. Thanks, Papa Bob!

So this place gets a lot of press, mostly because they have a 6lb. meat sandwich that was featured on the Food Network. But after coming here twice I have experienced over-cooked, dry meat. None of the sides are made there so the sides are like cafeteria food. And the prices are high for the portions (which is over-coked, dry BBQ and bad sides). Save yourself and go to one of the other great BBQ places in K.C!

Very welcoming atmosphere (very welcoming/accommodating...), decent meat, tasty sauces and even better baked beans. My traveling crew grew in numbers a few months ago while visiting this place. Roughly 14 of us sat down to enjoy the BBQ offered by Papa Bob himself. Papa Bob even sat down with us. Seriously, he never left, even thought sometimes it was awkward. Furthermore, it was fairly "intimate" to say the least. Pretty sure he hit on a few of the girls. It was nothing uncomfortable, it was more like a grandpa interacting with some young, attractive female(s). Now, back to the food - the baked beans stole the show like Kanye West at the Grammy's. The baked beans (not Kanye) were sweet, tangy and flavorful. Pretty sure we tasted cinnamon and cumin. The meat itself was average at best. However, the showcase of sauces were helpful to soak the meat in to take away from any dryness. On second thought, perhaps the meat was dry because of the cool, dry Edwardsville air. Sincerely, Beans beans beans the magical fruit...and I did poop!

A bbq place on the higher side of the list, good food good sauce, good sides. Smaller place and a bit of a drive but if you're near there it would be one of my recommendations

Amazing hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint with a huge menu and a Man-vs-Food beating 6 lb meal that's free if you can demolish the whole thing in 40-45 minutes. (The hospital bill does cost extra.) The meats were outstanding, the sauce, including Bob's spicy offering, were all AAA, and, as is custom in the midwest, they have more desserts than they have tables in the place, and the ones which we tried, the strawberry-rhubarb pie and a chocolate peanut-butter thing, rocked. They have a fish fry on Tuesdays or Wednesdays but with barbecue this good, what the heck are you doing eating fish here? I have to drop them one star for sticking high fructose corn syrup in the bottled barbecue sauce. You wouldn't serve beer to a kid. Why take great tasting sauce and load it full of stuff just as toxic?

We are always looking for another 'go to' BBQ place, unfortunately this is not it. Ordered the burnt ends plate and for the amount paid we should have gotten twice as much meat. We also ordered the combo with two meats and ribs - the ribs were tender but not very much meat. The sausage was good, but the pulled pork was dry. If you like Sonic jalapeño poppers, you will like these as well. The crinkle fries could also have been purchased at the local grocery store, they were not great. Tried to support a local restaurant, but we will continue to drive further to some of our other favorites.

A trip worth the drive! A friend of mine recommended this place so we made a detour and tried it. Oh my gosh was this good! This restaurant was really clean and the staff very attentive. I LOVE a clean restaurant. The food was really good and there was a variety of sauces available. The beans were meaty, the fries crisp, the meat tender. My husband and I split a deluxe dinner that had 2 meats, 2 ribs and 2 sides. It was perfect. We ordered some horseradish pickles - my new fav! We will definitely be going back to this little gem!!

We stopped here because of the Ultimate Destroyer challenge from Man vs Food. Four of us split the Ultimate Destroyer, which is massive, and didn't finish it. The bbq was very good, but the reason I loved this place was the service. Our server was fantastic and struck up conversation with us. Then the owner (I assume he is the owner) came by the chat and took our picture with the monstrous bbq sandwich. He added one of the pictures to the slideshow and gave us a copy to remember the painful meal. We finished the meal and put a pin on a large map showing where we are from. We rolled out satisfied and stuffed. Even if you don't try the Ultimate Destroyer (I recommend it with a team 5 people..) the bbq is smoked perfectly (even on the giant sandwich). Great place for families. The owner obviously loves what he does and makes sure everyone feels like family when they walk in.

We were visiting from Colorado and decided to try some authentic BBQ at Papa Bobs. It was fantastic! The service was great, very friendly people. The food came out fast and was delicious! The kids are hooked now and we don't have anything here as good! Papa Bob, please come to Colorado Springs. :) We had the burnt ends sandwich and pulled pork sandwich- yum!

Went here to check out the hype due to the Ultimate Destroyer Challenge that has also been featured on Man vs Food. I was rather excited based on that alone. The restaurant is pretty homey, which is exactly what I wanted. BBQ shouldn't be fancy and there is nothing fancy about Papa Bob's, so that's a plus. The service was pretty slow, as we waited about 10 minutes for the waitress to take our order. I went with the Large Pulled Pork sandwich and a side of fries. My son had the kids chicken fingers with tots, and my mom had a cheeseburger and fries. The pulled pork was fair. It didn't wow me like other BBQ places. The sandwich was also anything but large. It was $8 by itself and you'll get about half as much as Arthur Bryant. My mom's cheeseburger was dry as a bone and the buns were cold. My son gobbled his food down and was very happy with it. I will say that the sauce was very delicious and sweet. I definitely enjoyed it. Everything else was very average at best and definitely not worth the $40 we had to pay. If you want to try an incredible food challenge then this is the place for you and I would recommend it for that. If you aren't going for the challenge then I'd say there are much better BBQ places in the metro.

Im a local, somewhat regular. Over time the staff seems to get friendlier...unfortunately the prices seem to get higher and the portions smaller. I love BBQ, especially our homegrown places. The majority the time, Papa Bob puts out decent meat (honestly, I only get beef sandwiches) and the sauces are unique and tasty...something for everyone. I always grimace when the bill comes...never feels like I've fully gotten my money's worth. I think it is because the sides add up so quickly. I won't quit the place, but I would eat there a lot more if I didnt have to save up to do it.

  • Maria R.

The food was mediocre, the waitstaff not very attentive, and caused my husband and his visiting family to end up with food poisoning from just barely warm very grisly burnt ends. There was only our table and w other tables in the restaurant.

Ambiance: Super-friendly staff in a diner complete with white counter and stools. Bob actually works the floor checking on people and running the register. Food: I've been here twice and have to say that both times I've been underwhelmed. The beef is a little dry and has a weird slightly metallic taste I can't quite identify. The sausage was pretty flavorful but flat-out dry and slightly tough, reminding me of the texture of eating a salami. The pulled pork and ribs were probably the best things on the menu eig flavorful and moist but definitely not better than other KC BBQ places like RJ's or Oklahoma Joes. A definite must try is the beans which can be superb. I love the balance of sweet, tang, and savoriness with nice chunks of meat. The only thing is that the second time I got them the beans were overcooked and mushy but still super tasty. They also have a grip of sauces to try which is nice. Overall the BBQ here is mediocre at best with the beans being one of the stars and the pulled pork and ribs being good but not awesome. The prices are comparable to other places. I'd say don't lose sleep over trying this place as there is better BBQ in the KC area.

On our way to a recent Sporting KC game, we decided some food was necessary before enjoying some soccer. Determined to avoid the craziness of all the Legends restaurants before a game, it seemed it was time to try Papa Bob's. It was 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon, so it was pretty quiet inside. Our waitress was very helpful and was great. I ordered the burnt end dinner with fries and the "Bad-Ass Beans". Positives: -Great BBQ; especially the burnt ends, some of the best in town -Nice small-town mom & pop diner feel -Fantastic service -Wide menu selection with burgers and other items Negatives: -A little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip -Maybe a tiny bit more expensive than your average BBQ place, but not by much This one might be a little off the map for some, but it's near enough to K-7/I-70/The Legends to make it an easy trip. The BBQ is tasty, the service is great, and there is a big menu to keep you coming back for more. It's also a great stop before a T-Bones/Sporting KC game since it's only a few miles south of the Legends area.

I wanted to start the New Year off right. I decided to finally make a stop into this off the wall barbecue joint. I tried the burnt end sandwich which was a delight. Very nice flavor. I had a side of the kick ass baked beans. They were mushy as opposed to runny and had bits of meat included. And were very good. Nothing really tipped me over the top and made me super excited My first time here. The food was really good, the customer service was excellent-very nice staff. I will definitely visit again.

Pretty solid sauce sausage and burnt ends. Spares were nice but baby backs lacked quite a bit. The pickles were great ...great friendly atmosphere. The owners made a point to talk to patrons and obviously care deeply about their business and customers...nice change. I'll go again

Tried the Ultimate Destroyer Challenge. Didn't even come close. I knew I wasn't going to finish it but I wanted to try it, get a picture and say to my friends that I tried it. Well. The challenge is a 6.5 lb sandwich with fries that needs to be finished in 45 minutes without standing or dunking the bread into the liquids. I ended up leaving the restaurant with an Ultimate Destroyer challenge weighing 5.15 lbs. So I pretty much ate 1.35 lbs before calling it quits. Anyways, the service is super quick and the staff are really really friendly. Ended up meeting Bob who is a great guy. So now I can say that I have my picture on their wall of shame but that is something I am proud to say. They took 2 pictures of me before the challenge and I was able to keep one of them which is now in a picture frame that will be hung on my wall at home. If I'm ever back in town, I will be swinging by again. Highly recommend coming here. Just and fyi... Adam Richman from Man V. Food was here to try the challenge and wasn't able to beat it. Go Papa Bob's!!!

  • Erin W.

Papa Bob and his wife are super nice. Each time you go in, they'll walk around and talk to everyone making sure everything is going good and to see how you are doing. The Brooke's Bad A$$ Beans are AMAZING. I love the jalapeno poppers, but they are a little pricey for me. The sauce is awesome and the meat is juicy and wonderful. They are best known for the Man Vs. Food special, and yes, Man lost. They even had great cake (which made my mom extremely happy). Love this place and will be going back time and time again.

Everything was really good, if you are into trying all of KC BBQ you have to put this on your list. Make sure to talk to Bob about all of his other sauces that are not on the table. He is a super nice guy, we talked for 20 minutes about his sauces.

We went on a Sunday after a soccer game. Service was good. Food was great! Would come back for sure. We had 6 in our party and everybody was happy.

While the food was good I can't help but feel like it's over priced. For example, one member of my party ordered the "long ends" (ribs). I ordered a burnt end sandwich. Neither entree came with a side. The ribs were $11 and the sandwich $9 but the ribs had about 4x as much meat to them, there was a scant 1/4 cup of burnt ends on my giant bun. My sandwich, a side of beans and an iced tea came to $14.99. With tip my lunch was $18. That's pretty excessive if you ask me and for that reason it's not likely I'll be back even though there were several items on the menu that sounded interesting (including the Horse burger -- ground beef smoked and topped with horseradish pickles -- a name like that one gets your attention). That being said, the restaurant is cute, clean and the staff quite friendly and attentive.

Well after reading all these positive reviews after actually going and eating at Papa Bob's Bar-B-Que I just keep telling myself there is no accounting for taste. That being said, this place was a total waste of time and money. We went on a Saturday and ordered a family style dinner that included 2 selections from their meats and some ribs and sides... basically the whole she-bang. Terrible pulled pork. It was dry and flavorless and had not a hint of smoke to it. It looked like chewed up jerky. Speaking of jerky... if you like your ribs greasy AND dry... then this is the place for you. I am ASTOUNDED at how you can not fully render out fat from bbq AND let it sit long enough for the meat to become dry to the point of tearing into stringy little meat fibers. Like beef jerky. Disgusting. They charge top dollar for this stuff too which really surprises me that its so well liked by these WyCo natives. Complete and total waste of money We ordered these horseradish pickles that were apparently fantastic but were sweet and cloyed to the palate. Sorry when I hear "horseradish" I dont think "sweet". Total waste of money. The sides were not homeade aside from the beans which I did not try. Cole slaw and potato salad tasted like pre-made high fructose corn syrup junk. I wouldnt feed it to my dog. The sauce? Not really sure because they had damn near over a half a dozen sauces that all vaguely tasted the same with some small differences. Pick a sauce and stick behind it. Half the time I didnt know what was in what bottle or ramekin. It didnt do any favors for the terrible meat. The service? If a frizzy haired old gal who acts like shes doing you a favor and smells like cigarettes is good service... then it was GREAT service. The only thing worth eating at this place is the dill pickles. Im not joking. I drove away from this place mad and $40 lighter. Last but not least.... any REAL BBQ place that needs a stupid gimmick like a contest to eat a 10 pound sandwich needs to get their priorities straight. Forget this place and here's to hoping they dont last long in this town. It gives KC BBQ a bad name.

Good place, if a little off the beaten path. I'd recommend it if you're nearby, but I can't in all honesty say it's worth driving out to from downtown KC. We found the food good, the service friendly, and prices reasonable. I feel bad not being able to be a little more enthusiastic, but with so many great choices in the area, it's tough to gush over "good enough." This place would be one of the better BBQ joints in Albuquerque, but in the KC area it's pretty much average.

Excellent BBQ. Had the meat lovers platter, so I got to sample everything. The spicy sauce could have been hotter, but the flavor was rich. Service was truly exceptional - very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

This place was AWESOME! After eating at many of the BBQ places in KC, I have to say this is definitely one of the top ones. I think the food is great. Granted I believe there are some places that may be better in terms of the food itself, but this place has the atmosphere that everyone can enjoy, great hospitality, the sauces are amazing (All of them...like 6), the sides are amazing too, and did I mention the atmosphere! The burnt ends are great. That is pretty much one thing that I have to get every time I go. Also, they have horseradish pickle "chips" that are incredible, a must try. The thing I love the most about this restaurant is the hospitality that you would expect out of a backyard BBQ joint. The owner and restaurants name sake Papa Bob comes out from the back and greets everyone that comes in, and, in my case, sat down and talked to the group I was with for a good 10-15 min about the sauces that he makes and a little of the history behind the restaurant. I mean, you sincerely feel like family. They have a map in the back of the restaurant and if you are new and from out of town they will give you a pin, so you can mark on the map where you are from. They have a US map and a World map. You would be surprised by the orgins of people that have made it over there. This is how ALL BBQ places should be.

I live in Edwardsville and drove passed this place one day. I love BBQ so I decided to try it. If you ask me, they have the best BBQ sauce in the city. I'm no chef and definitely not a BBQ aficionado, but I know what I like and I like this. The place is very mom and pop, if you are expecting plaza style Jack Stack atmosphere, you will be disappointed, the booths are torn and old.The decor is outdated... It's a old diner, but the BBQ is damn good and the staff will make you feel like family. If you ask me, that's how BBQ should be eaten.

  • Kayt B.

This was a good place for burnt ends, definately.I had the ribs, short, could've used a bit more tenderizing. I like when the meat pulls away from the bone easily, but these tended to come off in stringers. The pulled pork was great, my husband ordered. They have a gorgeous jalapeno barbeques sauce as well.

some of the best bbq i have ever had. the staff was the amazing and made you feel like you were eating at home with family. it was our wedding anniversary and they congratulated us by scrolling a message on the billboard sign outside the restaurant. all the bbq was fantastic, plenty of seating and if you're in the kansas city area, this should be the first place you go to.

There was a day, now passing into legend, when roadhouses populated the highways, feeding hungry travelers good food at fair prices. Each place served the standard items, but often with a regional or homemade twist. I don't know whether Papa Bob's was conceived with that idea, but its place on a well-traveled secondary road, its genuine personality, and food prepared with creativity and care make it seem that way. No fancy restaurant-consultant decor here. Papa Bob's is small, and divey in a charming way. The smell of sweet smoke is in the air. The staff is friendly, and on our visits, seemed glad to see us. Both Bob himself and his wife Judy are on site, happy to chat and answer questions, and relate some history, all with good humor. They seem to take real pride and pleasure in their customers' satisfaction. It's worth taking some time with the menu. All the usual Kansas City barbecue is there, but also creative additions, some of which I have never seen elsewhere. Smoked corned beef? Come on. Turns out Bob actually brines his own briskets and then smokes them. Brilliant, and, as far as I know, unique. A shredded smoked turkey leg? How awesome? A smoked burger? Why hasn't anyone else thought of that? This is clearly a man who has given serious consideration as to what might go into a smoker. All the fare is up to the high standards of Kansas City barbecue. Burnt ends were extra smoky and special. Bob has become at least somewhat famous for combining those standards in his own way. You would think that the "ultimate destroyer," a ridiculous behemoth with six pounds of meat, would be just a stunt until you see the board with photos of scores of eaters, evidently suffering from delusions of grandeur, who tried to eat it unaided. Really? This thing would feed a village. The "destroyer" is a huge sandwich, regal barbecue filling a plate, that two rational people could make a meal. Side dishes are not the forte. Stuff out of the deep fryer is fine but unremarkable. Cole slaw is mediocre. Beans, which are touched by the smoker, are very good. No review of Papa Bob's could be complete without a mention of sauce, which is another outlet for creativity. He has a whole line of sauces of various intensity, using various peppers. We tried them all: every one is excellent. Real attention is given to the flavor of the sauce, not merely the heat, which arrives in the hotter sauces on the back end. I loved the Habenero, normally a very hot pepper, which gets your attention but does not burn. Is this the best barbecue in metro Kansas City? I don't know. I do know that this is a place with real personality, with excellent food, prepared and served by real people who care. Why would you miss that?

I've had BBQ all over the country and it doesn't get any better than the BBQ at Papa Bob's. Not only is the food delicious, but the service is friendly and down-to-earth. The atmosphere is just what you'd expect from a small-town BBQ diner. If you want a real feel and taste for KC BBQ, you can't go wrong with Papa Bob's.

This place is ok. It is known for the Ultimate Destroyer. Which is like 7 pounds of meat (sausage, turkey, ham, brisket, smoked hamburgers, etc) all piled onto bread and served with a pound of fries. If you can eat it in 45mins you get your picture on the wall and a button. Not my thing but it was on Man vs Food awhile back. The brisket is ok needed a little more flavor and needs to be a little leaner. The ham was good, cut a little thick for my taste. The turkey was tender but lacked flavor. The sauce is a little sweet and the beans are ehh. The beans are small portion and just lack luster compared to other places in town. The service is good. Everyone is friendly and chatty. Prices are on par with other KC BBQ. It is a little out of the way being in Edwardsville/Bonner Springs area. I wouldn't make a specail trip out that way, but if you find yourself in the area, it is decent.

Papa Bob's BBQ is a family owned and run restaurant. It's small but friendly and the food is great! I usually get the pulled pork sandwich, which I did today. They have several BBQ sauces to choose from, including my new favorite, Crummy Bob. Bob is there every day, thinking up new foods and talking with his customers, as is his wife. Yes, they were on Man vs Food for the Ultimate Destroyer but they just make good BBQ in a friendly atmosphere. Their pies are made from a great local bakery and their bottled root beer is made in Louisburg. I try to get to Bob's once a month for a work lunch. Highly recommend!

I should say up front that I am a former regular of Papa Bob's, I'd eat lunch there at least once a week. Papa Bob's will never win an award for best BBQ in Kansas City, although that is expecting a little too much for this pleasantly quaint establishment in Bonner Springs. Very friendly service makes one immediately feel like a regular. Papa Bob's fairly extensive menu of popular BBQ dishes will satisfy most tastes. The food is certainly decent, the meat is nearly always lean and, just as important, consistent: a real issue with other local joints like Gates BBQ. But it is consistently average, don't expect to be wow'ed here. My biggest issue with Papa Bob's is the nickel-and-diming of the customer. First off, their prices are simply not in check with their competition. A regular sized brisket sandwich and fries will set you back over $10, which is what you'd pay at KC's premier BBQ restaurants (OK Joes, Gates, Jack Stack). For a small-time Bonner Springs operation with food not quite as good (or plentiful) as those other 3, this is unacceptable. Even worse, little things like extra pickles carry a charge ($1.50!!) and serving sizes on items like sides are pitifully small. As much as I appreciated the friendliness of Bob, his wife, and his staff, I haven't been there in months. They've simply priced themselves out of the market and now I satisfy my BBQ needs elsewhere.

Would be nice to post on the website not open on Sunday for Labor Day. There wasn't even a sign on the door saying they were closed for the holiday. I'm guessing it was just for Labor Day because the place did not look closed down.

Anytime I can be with my family and eat at the same time, I am happy; but I won't listen to Man vs Food again. We made a special trip to Kansas City (because of Man Vs Food) to eat what looked like delicious barbeque. We were the 1st customers of the day and it was a clean establishment. We seated ourselves in a booth by the window and took in the atmosphere. We opened our menus and saw all the foods that make me want more including self-proclaimed homemade cream pies. We ordered appetizers first. Breaded mushrooms, horseradish pickles, and jalepeno poppers. All of which were not homemade. They didn't advertise they were homemade, but one might assume that with all the popularity they receive they might have done that. I would give the appetizers a 2. The jalapeno poppers were the best of the 3...which isn't saying much. We then ordered out sandwiches, the Destroyer (not the Ultimate Destroyer), the $11 counterpart. We chose pork and sausage. Unfortunately the smoke flavor was totally missing. The meat and bread were plentiful, just not flavorful. My wife got the corned beef sandwich and we realized that's where all the smoke flavor went. Her's was the best sandwich. They have 3 sauces, mild, hot, and a habenero. They were all delicious and we soaked our sandwiches in them to give them flavor. The habenero was not as hot as you might think...it was only mildly hot but flavorful. The "hot" was about the same just not the same taste, but still very good. The mild was really good and sweet with a slight vinegar base to it. Now comes dessert. Again, not homemade. My wife and I split the coconut cream which was EXACTLY like Marie Calendars. The peanut butter pie was much better, but again it was store-bought in flavor. How much was the total? Gas from Dallas: ~$125.00 Hotel room at the Hyatt: $85.00 Incidentals: $30.00 Papa Bobs: $71.01 w/o tip Time spent with family: PRICELESS For everything else, stay in Dallas and eat.

Stopped in for dinner. It's as mom and pop as one can expect. The service was helpful and friendly. At our table we had ribs, turkey, pulled pork, and sausage. All were pleased with the meats. The sweet potato fries were crispy and delicious and the BBQ sauce was great. Honest simple food that was good to eat. We will go back again.

Great service! The owner is really a great guy. The turkey and brisket are really tasty. Mly wife loved the pulled pork, I rarely like pulled pork and it was the one thing I didn't care for. The habanero sauce is sweet with a little fire that bites at the end! The server they have a really hot sauce on request. The beans they call em Brook's Bad A** Beans are quite good. The ribs are tender and moist, with a ton of sauce. Watched a guy try to eat the 10lb sandwich. It's free if you eat all of it, $48 if you don't! They should have put the guy that tried to eat it on the TV news as it was quite entertaining! We have only been once and will go back whenover that way. The owner made us feel like family. Next time I want to try the hickory smoked burger.

The ratings seem to be all over the place for Papa Bobs, as an out of towner with no local favorite or affiliations...I can say this is hands down some of THE best bbq I have ever had! We all ordered the burnt ends dinner, came with 2 sides (we ordered the ones they said were homemade coleslaw and beans) and bread. 1st of all, the burnt ends were incredibly flavorful. Super smokey and juicy, they fell apart on my fork! The white bread was perfect for sopping up juice and sauce and the beans were phenomenal. They were sweet and spicy with huge chunks of meat in them. The coleslaw tasted very fresh, like it had been made within the hour or something, but not quite as "creamy" as the menu claimed. We also ordered dessert and drinks. The chocolate peanut butter cream pie was sinful and decadent. I took one to go for our late night snack, SO good. Am I at all annoyed they don't make the desserts in house? NOPE. From what I understand they don't have the facilities to do large batch baking and I rather appreciate all the extra time that gives them to deliver amazing bbq flavor at a reasonable price. That's right, you heard me...I found the prices to be very reasonable. For dinner, two sides, a drink and dessert we spend 18 bucks. Maybe I am used the the 35 bucks a plate prices in CA but, I don't get all the bitching moaning and complaining about a dinner plate that is substantial, tastes great and runs you 8.50! We will be in KC for the rest of the week and we have already made reservations for Wednesday night!

My personal opinion: How this tiny restaurant ended up on the Food Network I shall never understand. I go into a bbq place knowing I am out of my element yet still hoping to be surprised. I asked for a grilled cheese cooked on the 'bread side' or a cleaned off portion of the grill. The server told me that the grilled cheese could only be cooked on the meat side of the grill (no cleaning it off). Since I didn't want a meat grease soaked sandwich I ordered a side salad, fries and their pesto pasta salad. We had to wait half an hour for our food to arrive as we listened to the staff 'bitch' about how busy they were since the food network show. The salad was below average. The dressing tasted like the cheapest brand dressing you can buy in bulk. The fries tasted like they were bought in bulk frozen from Sam's Club and the pesto salad upset my stomach. My husband ordered the Destroyer (not the 'Ultimate' Destroyer), he got turkey, sausage and beef. He noted that it was average. Nothing special, not worth the drive. Their sauce isn't the worst sauce I have ever tasted but it is down there. WAAAY to much vinegar in their bbq sauce. They need to add more tomato and then add some brown sugar and molasses to balance it out. My opinion, if you want to go for the Ultimate Destroyer challenge, go and have fun for anything else just stay home and get the experience off TV.

Went here for lunch today with a friend from work. Won't be back! Wayyyy overpriced. We each had their Sloppy Meat sandwich fries and iced tea. $12 each!! The meat was even tuff to chew. Very little food. Very big price.

Consistency is a must when it comes to food for me. The first time I tried this place it was really good and then it just went down hill from there. I always go back because its close and I wanted to give them more chances and last night will probably be my last. My honey stopped to pick it up to go. He first told me the fries spilled over the counter and she scooped them back into bag...and cook in back said she couldn't do that. She proceeded to say to him when she came with order "you didn't see anything did you?" She was then carrying glasses to the table handling them with fingers over the rims of them. So she probably needs to be trained better or let go. I open the bags and start dishing it out and take a bite of the chicken and its cold all the way down to the bone. The fries were cold also and overcooked to the point that made me think they were cooked, sat under warmer, thrown back in grease, back under warmer and then sent home with us. Ribs cold down to bone also. The beans however were hot as heck. He said the food was packaged up fairly quick which explains it had just been sitting there. I really liked the place cause of the sauces and the owners wife is a sweetheart. It's not enough for me to ever go back again, unless I hear they have made some changes.
